This Year’s 8 Best Custom Builds

Dec 12, 2015

We caught you checking out our Top 7 Single Groups, but did you know that our craziest custom builds go to cafes? Personalized equipment is a powerful tool for branding, one wielded by hundreds of Slayer clients around the world.

In 2015, many unique materials made appearances on 2- and 3-group Slayers: gold, glass, marble, and more. Enjoy this review of our favorite work from the year.

1. Custom Logo Cutout

ANCHORAGE, USA | This isn’t our first take on a transparent body, but Steamdot’s custom 2-group doesn’t feel any less special. Adding an acrylic window and LED lighting, we put the red, logoed tank on full display. Completed with white powder coat and chromed Xs.

2. Maple Timber on Matte Black

BARCELONA, SPAIN | Continuing 2015’s love affair with matte black, our friends at Compak Grinders debuted this beauty at HOST, Milan’s biennial hospitality extravaganza. Its blacked-out body contrasts beautifully with the Maple wood handles, actuators, and cup rails.

3. World’s First 24K Gold Machine

24k gold custom espresso machine

NEW YORK CITY, USA | Something was missing from the world until just this year and that something was an espresso machine covered in gold. For our most elaborate custom job so far, we built this 3-group Slayer with real, 24 carat gold-plated panels and Padauk wood accessories. Coincidentally, it’s both a first for gold and the last machine to be produced in our original facility.

4. Custom Logo Whiteout

BARCELONA, SPAIN | Don’t be fooled by the angelic glow of Black Remedy’s “whiteout” 3-group – it has a dark side. Custom logo work on the back panel features a Jolly Roger with etched and backlit eyes that glow red.

5. Marble Glow

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA | We’ve proudly offered ex-works customizations for years, but some ambitious clients take it upon themselves to make our machines their own. This collaboration between The Coffee Man, Surfcoast Stone Design, Specht Design, and KDS Designs features backlit marble panels and hand-painted lettering. Now on bar at Cartel Coffee Roasters. 6. Walnut Timber on Chrome

NEW YORK CITY, USA | “Custom” doesn’t always mean “crazy”. With stunning simplicity, this build mates Black Walnut sides with chrome-plated Xs and rear. We wouldn’t change a thing.

7. Cherry Timber on Chrome

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA | It’s the inverse of the last build, but there’s nothing backwards about it. Real Brazilian Cherry veneer is framed between chrome body panels for an exotic appearance that looks wild from any angle.

8. Custom Logo on Brass

Brass plated Custom Slayer for Fuglen TokyoCherry timber on brass espresso maker

TOKYO, JAPAN | With the gold Slayer, we were only getting started. Fuglen Tokyo tasked us with our second foray into full-body metal-plating but, this time, in brass. Without the typical “clear coat” finish, these brass components will develop a unique patina over time, especially in areas that experience heat or friction.
