If it’s not the place you would’ve guessed, you’re not alone. In fact, before meeting Dejan Bošković, we didn’t know the first thing about specialty coffee in the Balkans. We couldn’t have imagined what we were missing.
Dejan is the second-generation steward of his family’s business, Mlin Produkt, a Belgrade-based roaster, importer, and specialty coffee retailer. With 2.5 decades of success behind him, Dejan planned a trip to Seattle and plotted an exciting, new step for Mlin Produkt. And the pleasure is all ours.
A shot of adrenaline for the next leg of the journey, these 5 custom builds are headed to Mlin Produkt’s client in Serbia, Cafe & Factory.
Koa Wood + Polished Nickel Body
“C&F” – short for Cafe & Factory – is front and center on every machine, incorporated into some of the most imaginative branding work we’ve ever done. Cut from aluminum, plated with nickel, and polished to a shine, the first of five logos is fixed to a stainless steel rear panel, veneered with Koa wood.
Mirror-like panels and polished Xs frame the body. Koa brew actuators, steam levers, and portafilter handles outfit the barista’s workspace. And one of our most elegant custom builds is readied for action.
Jollypop Red + Custom Mesh Logo
Centered in vibrant “jollypop” red, the second take on Cafe & Factory’s logo features a polished badge on a mesh screen. Numerous layers and textures create a multi-dimensional appearance that leaps from the machine.
Also pictured with Zebrawood handles and actuators.
Glass Panel + Powder Coat Tanks
Since the first glass panel was placed on Slayer in June, we’ve been eager to see it happen again. (Thanks, Dejan.) Revealing branded boilers and the machine’s intricate interior, the glass is secured with special brackets and framed by jollypop side panels.
This 2-group also sports polished aluminum Xs and a Peruvian Walnut wood set.
Jollypop Red + Ziricote Wood
The translucent powder coat treatment known as “jollypop” applies a colorful finish with dazzling depth. Pair it with polished panels and Xs and you’re looking at a machine that, well, pops. Panel edges excluded for extra flair.
Further customized with Ziricote wood handles and actuators.
Paduk Wood Panels + Backlit Logo
Our first go with Paduk earned its place in our wood palette. The orange-red timber richly decorates Slayer’s side panels, brew actuators, steam levers, and portafilter handles.
On the polished rear panel, “Cafe & Factory” is etched with red backlighting.
